How to Choose a Web Design Agency: 8 Questions to Ask First
Every agency website looks impressive — so how do you actually choose?
Portfolios can be curated, testimonials can be selective, and every agency claims to care about your business. The real differences show up in the answers to a few specific questions.
1. Who will actually work on my project?
Some agencies pass your project to a rotating team or outsourced freelancers. Knowing exactly who you’ll be dealing with, and whether that’s consistent throughout, matters more than most people realise.
2. What happens after the site goes live?
Ask specifically what support looks like once launch day is over. Is there ongoing maintenance? Who do you call if something breaks on a Sunday?
3. Do you own your own website afterwards?
Some agencies build sites on locked platforms you can’t move away from. Make sure you understand what you actually own at the end of the project.
4. How are revisions handled?
Understand upfront how many rounds of feedback are included, and what happens if you want changes after that.
5. Can I see real client results, not just designs?
Beautiful design is only half the job. Ask whether previous clients have actually seen more enquiries or sales as a result.
6. What’s included in the price?
Hosting, domain, stock images, copywriting, get clarity on what’s included and what’s billed separately, before you sign anything.
7. How will you handle my specific needs?
A generic pitch is a warning sign. A good agency should be able to speak specifically to your business, not a rehearsed script.
8. What happens if we don’t get along?
It’s a fair question. Contract length and exit terms matter just as much as the initial sales conversation.
